Good news is hidden within the day!

What's going on everyone!? Today has been a pretty rough day. My neck and back are killing me like usual and I don't have another epidural scheduled for another 8 days so it's been a bit painful to say the least.

After being stuck on the couch most of the day yesterday I felt I just HAD to do something today! So with a lot of time and even MORE breaks in between I started construction on a game called Spyzinger by friend and fellow game dev Lucas Gerlach.

He graciously gave me the plans to make my own copy so I could test it out as well as review it when the time comes. I have to admit, I can NOT wait! As I've been on a dexterity game kick lately this is something that is just fun and exciting to me knowing I can use my limited skills and MAKE a copy of this game. :)

Other than that, I've had the pain most of the day like I mentioned. It's a very inconvenient type of pain. It's in my neck/shoulder and in my back. It requires me to take MANY more breaks than I am willing to admit which in turn slows down otherwise quick progress to a snails pace.

During one of my breaks I had just happen to check my email this afternoon since I'm always contacting various people and companies about possible reviews in the future. To my surprise I was actually sent an email from Origins Game Fair which stated that my reservation for a press pass had been accepted!

Now, to me this is BIG news! For one, I'm finally being recognized as a "somebody" in the review scene which is a nice feeling in and of itself. Secondly, it means that there is more now than ever before a chance for me to make it to this board gaming convention for the first time ever and even being able to represent myself and The Kentucky Bored Gamer!

So, this is a HUGE thing for me obviously and it's not a cheap thing to pull off either as some of you may know. Because of this I have a gofundme page started up which is accepting donations for the trip to the event. I need all the help I can get in this so please check it out and feel free to share it, tweet it, read it and donate if possible. If not possible, I completely understand!

CHECK OUT THE PAGE HERE!

So onto the "Game a Day" challenge! Tonight my lovely wife and I played some Into the Black which is a game coming to kickstarter this week! We only have the early prototype versions so we can't exactly play the game as it is now but I will say that I've read over the revised rules and can NOT wait to see this one succeed!

After successfully completing our objectives in the game we cleaned the game up and my lovely wife went to bed for the night.

My beautiful daughter and I played another game however! We decided to try out Gravity Maze which is one of two game I've recently gotten for review. It's a pretty challenging solo player game but also very fun so be sure to keep an eye out for that review as well!

So all in all today was a great day by many other standards and I'm glad to end it on a happy note.

As always, thank you for reading and take care! :)

Next stop, Goblin Castle!

What's going on everyone!? Today is our daughters first official day of summer and it was a bit of a lazy day. She stayed at a friends lastnight and my lovely wife had to work this morning so this mean I had all morning to do crafts, play games, write reviews, do a little woodworking...ALL KINDS of fun stuff!

Unfortunately for me though, I woke up to my normal neck and back pains which meant that the injection had worn off :( So for the better part of the day I was down and out on the couch barely able to move around which really sucked. I had so much motivation to do... well... SOMETHING today and here I couldn't do a darn thing besides listen to some audio.

So anyways, let's not keep this a depressing post for long! Tonight my lovely wife was a little wore out from work today as well as the heat here at the house so she went to bed pretty early. This meant I got to recruit my lovely daughter to play a game with me!

She gladly jumped to my savior and we played a couple of games tonight. Some that you've read about and some that she's not played yet.

First up was The Princess and The Goblin. This game went WONDERFULLY between us. She not only caught on really quick but won BOTH games as well! I was happy to see she is so precisely following in her mothers footsteps when it comes to gaming by kicking my butt, lol!

The next game we played was one that is near and dear to me for many reasons. For one, it was purchased at our first ever board game convention this year, It has a train theme! and most importantly to me, It was first played in the hotel room with my lovely wife and dear 'ol Pops. The game I'm talking about of course is.... TRAINMAKER!

So as I explained the rules to my daughter very quickly and she seemed to get it right off the batt. Turns out that after one of the more lengthy sessions of it that I've played she ended up winning this game too! I couldn't be more proud of her and I love that she is winning without me "giving" her the win. I know it's nice to do sometimes but I also feel that in teaching a player to lose politely is just as important.

As always, thank you for reading and have a great day! :)

Caves and Goblins Oh My!!!

What's going on everyone!? Today for the "Game a Day" challenge my lovely wife and I played a new game that's currently on Kickstarter called The Princess and The Goblins! I'll be posting up a review tomorrow so keep an eye out for that.

As for tonight's game, she royally kicked my butt as usual but this is great little game!

Here's a few pics of the session tonight:

::DISCLAIMER:: These pics are of a low quality PnP prototype version. The actual game looks TONS better! :)

Rollin' down the line

What's going on everyone!? Today for the "Game a Day" challenge we were going to play a different game and live stream it but in our little house that would mean that you couldn't hear anything other than the fans running...lol.

So my lovely wife, daughter, 'ol Pops and I played The Last Spike. This is the first time I got to experience it as a 4 player game and WOW is there an added bit of strategy involved. It was a pretty intense game all around and extremely fun but my dear 'ol Dad walked away with the win!

I truly can't wait to play it with 4 players again as that just adds to an already awesome game and makes it that much better!

Flying Dragons Everywhere!

What's going on everyone!? Today for the "Game a Day" challenge my lovely wife, 'ol Pops, Neighbor Scott and I played some 4 player Tsuro! Had a LOT of fun playing it this evening and it just reminds me of how fun simple and quick games can be.

As you could expect, My lovely wife won the first game but I was able to steal the win on the second game!

So there's this game with birds called Rook...

What's going on everyone!? Tonight for the "Game a Day" challenge I was taught a game I've honestly never played before. ROOK!

It seems like a fun game and it was a little difficult not knowing anything about a game like this. There's quite a bit to learn right off the bat but once you get it, you "get it".

Turns out my lovely wife and her teammate whooped me and mine, lol.

Busy and somewhat PAINFUL day!

What's going on everyone!? Today has been a pretty busy day. Started out this morning with an appointment at 8am and then had to make an hour and a half trip to ANOTHER appointment for my epidurals.

Today was a little different though, I do believe I didn't get any numbing meds and could feel damn near everything. It was very enlightening to say the least give that this was only my second time getting the injections. It was a weird sharp pain feeling for a second, then I could feel the huge needle being moved around. Felt three different injections being pumped into my back and the pressure from one to the next was growing until it was borderline painful. Then they stopped thankfully.

Ever since, My back has been pretty sore in the injection spot all day but it seems the pain is FINALLY subsiding. Tomorrow is ANOTHER busy day as my daughter is going to be graduating 5th grade so I'm sure that will be interesting since I won't be able to sleep in at all and the steroids will kick in at sometime during her ceremony more than likely. That's another weird feeling, your skin turns red and actually feels hot to the touch but you are otherwise fine(at least I was last time).

Anyway, Back on track!

Today before my lovely wife and I played a "Game a Day" challenge I finally got a few minutes of strength to hang my Crokinole and Crokipool pieces on the wall and off the floor for better presentation!

Here's a pic of them on the wall in the kitchen above our table where all the game magic happens:

For the "Game a Day" challenge we played Madstone Chronicles, A game that I'm working on a review for that should be coming out soon. I'm really having a blast with the game and it's easy to get drawn in. It's a deckbuilding battle game where players fight not only each other but the "NPC" armies as well!

My lovely wife kicked my butt in this game as well tonight but I asked for a rematch so we can get the mechanics and play down and get ready for the review. :)
