Dragons and Dice

What's going on everyone!? It's been quite the busy day here at Blackburn Castle. We seem to have run ourselves ragged today. Since the day is now about over I figured my wife and I would play a quick game of Dragon Slayer Dice.

Turns out, she won! Are we surprised about this? lol! Seriously, I don't understand her winning streaks but it does make me proud to know that she can win as much as she does. I don't mind losing as long as it's a fun game with fun company so it doesn't get much better than that.

Here are a few pics from tonight's session:

Going with the flow

What's going on everyone!? Tonight for the "Game a Day" challenge I had a chance to play a game I'll be doing a review on soon called Zambezi. Now, I know I played this just the other night but tonight I was able to get my daughter to try it out with us and it was a BLAST!

Unfortunately for my daughter and I, our ships sank in the last stretch of the river. Fortunately for my wife, She won again! :D

I really am liking this game and can't wait to share the review for it once it's up. Until then, here are some pics of tonight's session:

All aboard!!!

What's going on everyone! Today for the "Game a Day" Challenge my wife and I decided to try out a game that we haven't had a chance to play yet called C.C. Higgins Rail Pass.

As you might have guessed it's a train/railroad themed game. It's set in the golden era of trains and as those are one of my favorite things, how could I NOT give this one a go. Well, it wasn't too hard to pick up and play, there are lots of cards and a LITTLE bit that is confusing but we we able to figure it out quickly.

Once we started playing I really was enjoying it. Props to my wife who I could tell was bored out of her mind with it, lol. She stuck through with me and we played until about dinner time. We ended up having to cut the game short but it didn't effect play at all. Turns out, even though this isn't a game I see my wife playing again, she TECHNICALLY won, lol! Go Figure! :P

Here's a couple pics from today's session. There aren't too many because I was really involved in the game and had a sort of tunnel vision to it:

In the Jungle, the mighty Jungle.

What's going on everyone!? Tonight for the "Game a Day" challenge I got to try out a game I was hoping would be fun since it has a specific theme to one of my favorite things and I was NOT disappointed! The game in question is called Zambezi and I had a BLAST playing it!

In the game, you are a tugboat captain going down the Zambezi river while racing the other players and trying to stop at the boat docks to grab fuel, diamonds, gold, silver and sometimes new crew members. You have to watch out for crashing into the other opponents because it will send one of your crew members and theirs overboard for the river to claim!

After playing through for the first time tonight with my wife, I have to admit that I am VERY supportive of this game. It truly is a fun time for the whole family or with friends. By the end of the game my wife kicked my butt because my ship didn't make it all the way through the river and ended up crashing on some rocks to wait out my face that was already decided by the local wildlife, lol!

All in all, I still had GREAT fun and would play it again in a heartbeat. I'm actually looking forward to playing it some more tomorrow!

It's a dog eat dog world

What's going on everyone!? I hope all you readers had a great holiday!

Today was a pretty busy day but I had a blast. Played a few different games but only got pics of the last one of the night called T.P.O.C.(The Politics Of Cannibals). This game is a pretty easy one to learn. I only wish they would have added player aid cards to the game which would have made it run smoother for our first game. But shortly in we all understood it and got the basics down.

After the session, turned out my lovely wife won this game as she does most of the games we play, lol. However, I mostly just enjoy playing the games in general so a loss is worth the fun sometimes. :)

I didn't get many but here are the pics from tonight's last session:

We're going a little... LOKA!

What's going on everyone!? Today I got a chance to play a game with someone who is normally a "non-Gamer" when it comes to board games and guess what... They had FUN!

The game we played today for the "Game a Day" challenge is a game called LOKA. It's sort of a chess hybrid/skirmish/team battle game and it's a blast. I can't wait to get the review finished for this one and tell you what it's all about!

Until then, here are some pics from today's session:

Nevermore!`

What's going on everyone!? Tonight for the "Game a Day" challenge we tried out this cool and brutal card game called Nevermore.

Now, I don't have much to report tonight since it's getting close to the end of the day but we had fun with this one. I can't wait to play through a full game!

Fighting Dragons Solo!

What's going on everyone!? Today was a pretty productive day as was yesterday. I did some research on getting business cards made as well as got a quote from a local t-shirt printer for custom shirts for when I go to conventions. Gotta rep, right? RIGHT!

That's not all that has happened today but that's all that's pretty much noteworthy for the blog, lol. Everything else is kinda boring stuff. So at the end the day, my wife wasn't feeling too good and headed to bed a little early.

I decided to play some Dragon Slayer Dice since it's quick and simple yet fun game. HOWEVER, the dice gods were not with me tonight. I only slayed 2 Blue Dragons, 1 Green Dragon and 1 Red Dragon all before meeting my demise against a 2nd Green Dragon.

It's games like these that just really speak to me sometimes. There's not much but some dice but I feel like an actual slayer hunting down dragons and getting the job done.

Here's a few pics of tonight's session. I'm sorry about the quality but I was playing in a dimly lit kitchen so my wife could sleep. :)

Busy day in the Dungeon!

What's going on everyone!? Today we had a pretty busy day, Dr appointments, spent lunch at a nice little buffet with my beautiful wife and played some games as well!

Today's theme for the day seemed to be "travel game" because of running around soo much. We played some Mint Tin Pirates, Mint Tin Aliens and Mint Tin Mini Apocalypse! As well as those great games we tested out a prototype game that was sent to me called Into the Black. Had a LOT of fun with that one and can't wait to get some notes back to the dev tomorrow!

Last game of the night we played Dungeon Roll. It's just a favorite of mine and let's face it, by the end of the day there wasn't much more time to fit in another game. For what I think MAY be the first time, I actually WON! :D but don't take that the wrong way, my wife made it hard as hell to beat her at it, lol!

Schools out FOREVER!

What's going on everyone!? Tonight for the "Game a Day" challenge we played a cool little game HUGE game called Student Bodies. It's another game that I'll be writing a review about as soon as I get some more plays under my belt. Tonight was the first play through and man, was it fun! and TOUGH! but mostly FUN!

Surprisingly I "won" because I ended up dying and becoming a zombie which changed my goal to "Kill the survivors to win" but in reality, my lovely wife won because she died last!

Here's a few pics of tonight's session, Check out the BEAUTIFUL artwork! :

Keep an eye out in the following week for a close up view of this game and a few other awesome items that are gaming related.

From Screen to Table, PORTAL!

What's going on everyone!? Tonight for the "Game a Day" we played some Portal. It's a fun game and I'll get more into it with the review in the future but for now just know that my lovely wife won....AGAIN... :P

I had a great time playing this one tonight, it was nice to play something that was on the lighter side of the spectrum.

Trying to escape zombie city...ALONE!

What's going on everyone!? I've had a VERY fun weekend and I hope all of you did as well. We played a few games(at least one a day for me, right?) and watched some movies. Really had a nice quality family weekend with my wife, daughter, her close friend, my father and myself. It was a BUSY weekend but busy with fun, that's for sure!

So after all the hustle and bustle of this weekend being filled with people and constant activities going on I ended tonight playing a solo game of Escape: Zombie City.

Now, this game isn't intended for solo play but with a single change made, I was able to make it work out pretty well. The only change that I made to the game is that instead of having to get 5 items back to the cargo van, in a solo game you just need 3.

If you REALLY wanted to, you could make it more than that but it really felt balanced for an "easy" version anyway. One other change that I was contemplating was to drop each of the zombies hit requirements by 1. Other than that, I don't think I'd change it anymore.

Sadly, My character failed to escape the city in enough time. With only 2 tiles left the time ran out and the game was over. I am happy to say that the tension of the game still works really well in solo though. Your heart really gets pumping and if you're wearing headphones or earbuds that just adds to the feeling of being "all alone".
